Jim and Sharon started this business in 1973 and still work it everyday. We are fair honest hard working people.
We are a Local Family Run Business that contributes to our local communities.
Your money is as important to you as ours is to us and we never forget that. All families need their money.
We train all our technicians to do the job properly and we make sure that they do what you need done to get you up and working or to simply keep your system properly maintained.
We are as upfront as we possibly can be about all the cost that you will incur. There is NEVER a Fuel Surcharge or an Environmental Unloading Fee.
Herring will try to work out a satisfactory payment method with you to help you handle any unplanned emergencies.
Herring always dumps in approved Dumping Sites where we carry licenses to dump.
Herring works with the Board of Health to get your system updated in their records so you can avoid any problems. If we make any repairs, we file all necessary paper work for you at no extra charge.
We work mainly but not limited to Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, Ulster, Orange and Albany County and are licensed to do so.

Herring Sanitation started in business July 3, 1973. We are a family run business with a family feel that is soon felt by all employees. We offer a full septic service to all of Dutchess County, some of Ulster, Westchester, Putman, Rockland, Orange and some other surrounding counties. We have grown to include Water Jetting, Snaking Services, Snow Plowing, and some Plumbing. We offer Portable Toilets and Tank Rentals and Service. Our goal is to offer a service that is competent and fair priced. We wish to leave our customers with them having had all their needs met. What is important is that we want the customer to feel safe enough to recommend us to their friends and family.

We all welcome you to our team and hope that you will soon share our work ethics. Every idea and suggestion is appreciated. We hope that you will soon be comfortable enough to share your opinions with management. You will be treated with respect and appreciation as it is our belief that everyone should enjoy coming to work everyday. When you are in the business we’re in, you quickly learn to appreciate the people who are willing to give an honest days work.

Job security is to do a good memorable job with the least amount of inconvenience to the customer and costs to us. Go to the job prepared and save multiple trips out. Do the job Right the First time. It saves the company embarrassment. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or to say “I’ll need help with that”. Honesty and dependability are valued. Customer Policy:

It has always been our policy at Herring Sanitation to please the customer. As a family business we keep families in mind as we do our pricing and scheduling. We chose as a motto back in the 1970’s “Satisfied Customers are our best Ads”. We have found this to be the truth. One dissatisfied customer can effect your reputation for years to come. Always act honorably and respectfully to all customers and fellow employees.

Keep in mind that we pay a great deal to advertise and build our good name. These are our customers. Promoting a relatives or friends roofing business for example or drumming up side work will not be tolerated. When they hire us, our customers are not looking to be harassed by salesmen or someone looking to buy their cars or property.

Give the customer the best possible job. It is your responsibility to do the job requested by the customer and as dispatched. It is also required to inform customers and the office of any findings or problems.

We are not high pressure salesmen. However it is your job to inform customers of problems. We either sends out an estimator or quote prices while there if you are knowledgeable enough to do so. This is the service needed by the customer. We do not create problems but we do offer solutions.

As a representative of Herring Sanitation, it is your responsibility to offer our full services to our customers. They should not have to call in another septic service when we leave the job. We should have given them what they need. If you go out to pump a septic tank and that does not solve their problem - your job is not done. Only when their problem is solved are you finished with that customer. You should contact the office and get our snaking service dispatched and so on.

We have to keep in mind the frustration of our customers because they do not understand exactly what it is they need. All they know is that they do not want to spend money on their septic. We have to offer service plus knowledge. We need to give our customers SERVICE and SOLUTIONS with pride and respect at fair prices.

Charities:

It has been the policy of Herring Sanitation to donate to needy charities and/or victims of tragedies throughout the year. Employees are encouraged to bring any of these needs to the attention of management. We will try to donate to those of your choice. At Christmas time, we together pick a family in need and try to do something anonymously for them and we always welcome suggestion from all. Herring offers discounts to many community organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, American Heart Association, Rebuilding Together, East Fishkill Girls Softball, many Charity Auctions, Towns of East Fishkill, Fishkill, Wappingers Falls, Beacon, Lagrange, Town of Poughkeepsie, Hyde Park and Veterans including Military deployed families to name a few.
